Why would it be more difficult?

    Dove hunting is never easy.

We have fields of sunflowers here. The fields draw them in. Fast birds. Hit rate is about 4 for 10 on a good day.

May have good dove areas in Texas as well.... Just have not seen them. Likely, there are better hunters too.

Either way, dove hunting isn't easy

    Do you hunt dove?.

    Good luck!

I have never hunted dove in Texas. It can't be easy!

Depends a lot on when & where. Texas is home to many doves, several species, of which two are main game birds & a couple others can be legally harvested.

Baiting with feeds is illegal under federal & state laws. There are two different types of dove shooting:

“Pass” shooting, In which a hunter posiitons himself under anticipated bird feeding or migratory flight pattern pathways. Use a “modified” choke.

”Tank” or roost shooting, in which the hunter seeks to ambush birds gathering for day’s end water reservoirs & livestock tanks or roost trees. This type is usually faster. The birds are nearer & slower, use “improved cylinder” choke.

Many of us travel to Texas specifically for dove hunting.

Try it, it can be difficult & frustrating, but rewarding. The TP&W websites have basic details.

Certain times & places it may be possible to combine dove & quail hunts.

    Haven't in over 40 years.

I was never a good shotgun shooter.

    My dad usually limited out.

Got invited to shoot in a sporting clays event today. Came in second...lost by one clay.

Met some more bird hunters and got an invite to a bird hunt!

    Good day.

Actually it's more of just a shoot than a hunt.

Pic of the young pup from late last year....

She's getting out on birds in a few weeks.

    Looking forward to it!
