I'm really glad you did this write up. I have a Rossi 92 that some drunk monkey drilled holes in the top of the barrel to put a rail on it! The holes are so mis-aligned that they had to file out the holes in the rail. At least mine is stainless, so I won't have to do the re-finishing part.

I finished my friend's model 700 22-250 today and am awaiting him to bring his new scope to mount. It had come with a synthetic stock and he bought a used wood stock that had the polyurethane finish, It was chipped, scratched and dinged up pretty good, so I stripped it, did a little sanding and put several coats of boiled linseed oil on it.

Re blued the rifle, jeweled the bolt, refinished his used wood stock.......the lighting doesn't really do it justice, I think it turned out pretty good......

Does peening the screws affect accuracy? I would assume the zero may change. Does it affect consistency?

Not that I shoot good enough for it to matter to me.

Not to my knowledge....I haven't read or heard that it would affect accuracy or zero.....

A friend of mine bought a Remington 700 in 22-250. It's an ADL model that came with rear and front iron sights. The previous owner removed the rear sight to fit a scope on it and left the front sight on. The rear sight holes had mismatched plugs in them.

The rifle has that black rough texture finish like the SPS models and he wants me to reblue it. Fair enough, but let's get rid of the rear and front sight holes forever since we are going to refinish it.. He said okay because he will only use the scope anyway. It has the black synthetic stock and we will replace it with a wood stock and I will jewel the bolt for him also...... It's currently black and the same finish as the rifle.

I stripped the rifle down and.....................

I cleaned all oil and debris and then chamfered the holes in the barrel, front and rear...................
