As a new Texan resident, I would like to know if it's worth my time applying for a License to Carry, or to just Constitutionally carry. I know there are some advantages with the LTR, but not sure if it's worth going through the motions of obtaining it. Any recommendations would be appreciated, thank you.
Here's a guide to Permitless you'll want to read. https://cdn.brandfolder.io/5Z10RK5F/at/3grj768k34x5pqmmvhpc85c/TXCC-Guide-Single-Pg-Digital.pdf

For my part in this, I fought like a DOG for Permitless-anything that gets the government out of the business of asking for permission to exercise Constitutional rights is a great thing. However, I still went out and got my LTC (we moved here from the People's Republic of Maryland in Dec of 2019, Covid hit and then I got this gig-so immediately into session for me and no time to pursue LTC until afterwards). Literally, I went to the bill signing on Permitless and did my qualification test two weeks later. I am not a lawyer but I can tell you, there are legal benefits to having your LTC. Click the link and see why. (I didn't write this by the way, Texas Law Shield did-it's a quick and easy read)

Welcome! I arrived here in 2018 (so I'm still new, I guess) and after getting my license & plates switched over, the next thing I did was get my LTC (there was no permitless carry at the time). It expires next year and I fully intend to renew it as I still travel to states that do not have permitless carry. I think it gives you a "dedication" to safe handling. Nothing scares me more than some yahoo buying a handgun, never firing it and thinking he's going to protect the entire restaurant from a mass shooter. That's one person I wouldn't want to be next to if the SHTF......additionally, I understand it carries a bit of leniency from the LEO's should you get pulled over.

If you think the 50 rounds you fire in the class makes you safer than some Yahoo. I got news for you

as far as constitutional carry vs licensed to carry. If you are not sure you want to carry then do constitutional till you decide.

For me the license to carry is a no brainer it lets you skip the weapons check when you buy a new gun and also lets you carry in other states that honor the tx licence

HI y'all! Just an update that I did end up getting a LTC. There are definitely benefits associated with having one, vs. not. I carry concealed where ever I go, and yet to encounter any cons. I just need to figure out how to appendix carry tucked :)

Points for Texans: Louisiana respects & honors your Texas permit.

One quirk: If CC’ing under any license, one must notify & get permission before entering a private home.

Appears that, if CC’ing ILLEGALLY, or if an armed Felon, this is not required.

OTOH, OC is, and always has been LEGAL here, but problems with LEO’s are not uncommon.

Just remember where you are, and vote accordingly!

I think one of the advantages is if you are purchasing a firearm, you don't have to do the NICS background check. Many FFL guys will charge less to do a transfer if you have the LTC, as well.

Personally, I think that unless you are somehow hindered, it's better to go through the training class and shooting for the LTC.
I've been shooting all my life, and I still learned quite a bit.... mostly legalities... in my class. I recommend it.

Haing around this is a great place. When you hit 25 threads in a couple hours it fills up everyone's notifications box or the new post box. So they go thru all those old threads just to see quick posts of someone trying to get to the classifieds quick. It's a but annoying and time consuming especially the really old threads that get bumped with one or two word posts. The selling part of this forum is an extra benefit but way down on the list of what TGT is all about. So people who do what you did get a little ribbing.

So don't take it personally and enjoy the ride. Come to the meets, meet the people and argue over brisket. Oh and ask to see @Moonpie secret glock collection. It's amazing.

Buckle up and enjoy the ride. Welcome.

And a fine good morning to you. You brought a shitty attitude to the wrong forum. Do you act like an assclown on those other forums? Or is it not an act?

Im actually a really nice guy, maybe you should have contacted me through direct message instead of gaslighting me in front of the entire forums. Yea i know what i did, but i followed all the rules and i was thinking maybe someone here might enjoy my rifle i really don’t want to sell. You have zero knowledge of how hard i have been working lately trying to stay afloat. I don’t need your passive aggressive woman like comments floated with a weak boy voice in my direction. As for the community, i will become a true member, but my life is too hectic right now. So sorry if i tried to sell my rifle here by following all the rules and giving this here community a chance at a purchasing the rifle i love.

Welcome to TGT & to the Gulf South.

I think this began as a discussion of other states’ regulations & differences.

We have seen lots of changes in the last 30 years. For background, Texas had a convoluted, poorly reasoned “NO handguns in public” law for a century; didn’t apply to long guns. It was sporadically enforced.

Other regional states have new imitations on O C, while Texas has only recently allowed OC under some strict limits.

Do get your home state’s CL, CWP, CHL, or whatever it is called. This ID’s you as non-criminal to any LEO or other official. Here in the South most contemporary Law Officers try to stop/prevent crime and insure Public Safety; and not quibble technicalities; especially away from large urban areas.

As for TGT, most here are reasoned & courteous; but some are “internet bullies” and love to harass anyone who sighty disagrees with them. Just hit their ”ignore” button.

Also, Texas has really Draconian “signage” laws for private & public places; please search for & read them here. Those change periodically when the Texas Legislature meets every couple years.

Stick around, please. Our Nation & World are being assaulted by neo-NAZIS disguised as socialist “Globalists”, & we need all the armed & knowledgeable Patriots we can muster.

One more item: Stay away from S.E. Houston (“SJL” territory) & New Orleans.

    Glad to have you here.

The fun part is when you learn a highway, then find out it has more than one name. The metroplex is famous for that.
    Highway 75= Central Expressway
Highway 121= the Sam Rayburn Tollway
    The Tollway=Dallas Parkway
    Highway 190=the George Bush Tollway
    the list goes on...
    it's a lot of fun....
