You voluntarily gave up your legal rights, I might have done the same in that circumstance. But you did give up your 4thA rights. Unless the trooper had reasonable suspicion that you had or were about to commit an illegal act he shouldn't have asked for ID.

    Exactly.

Like a search of your car or home. An officer can ask if they can search, but the 4th Amendment protects you from illegal searches and seizures. If an officer and asks, and you allow them to search your car or home, they you waived your protections of the 4th Amendment.

ANY LE officer that wants to search my car or home, will get a search warrant before they can proceed. I do nothing illegal for any need for a search, but it's my 4th Amendment right.

I detest any officer that uses the reasoning of, "Well if you have nothing to hide, then you shouldn't mind if we perform a search."

Well, if that officer had any respect for our laws and our rights, then me exercising my rights shouldn't bother him.

I was visiting the Alamo and carrying my 1911 with a shirt concealing it. While inside a Ranger came over and asked if I was carrying, I said yes is that not allowed? I was pretty sure I didn't see a sign on the way in. He said it's legal as long as you have a CHL, he asked me to step to the side and show my license. As I was showing him my license I asked if my gun was obvious, he said he was trained to notice. It wasn't a bad experience, he was friendly about it.

    striker55,

The Alamo Shrine is one of the FEW places in SATX, where NOBODY will hassle you for OC, provided that you are licensed AND the Alamo Rangers are VERY NICE/POLITE, unless the person is "causing a problem" & then they get REALLY TOUGH with violators.
Just saying that the Rangers are "protective of" the Shrine is an understatement.

Out of curiosity, are you saying that the officer would not have approached him had he been open carrying?
It was only because he was conceal carrying?

    ZX9RCAM,

NOPE. - The Alamo Ranger would have approached him for OC/CC.
(The Rangers do NOT discourage bearing arms, provided the person is LICENSED. - I've been known "on certain days" to carry a concealed pistol, musket & a sword or Arkansas Toothpick at the Shrine.)
NOTE: Once I have a saddle mule & a proper period saddle/tack, I will ride the mule to The Dawn Ceremony & hopefully this year.

On the first day that "carry" was legal in Texas, I was ONE of MANY people, who openly carried arms at The Alamo. - I rode the VIA bus to The Shrine that day & NOBODY said anything about my carrying of the scoped deer rifle & the P225 on my belt.
(I have NOT openly carried a modern firearm since that day at The Alamo, though during The Period of DISORDER, I was CC two handguns. = The so-called "protestors" had better be glad that they mostly behaved, as there were any number of armed civilian volunteers, DPS personnel & the Alamo Rangers, who were READY to deal with any violence & to protect The Shrine. - After the 1ST night of "protests", the SAPD officers, in uniform, were out in force. )

    yours, satx
