This whole Indian Nation thing is stupid. They have had 300 yrs to integrate into modern society. There is a law on the books that SCOTUS didn't take into consideration - involving citizenship and reservation law. Even Sitting Bull and Red Cloud (Lakota) admitted Black Hills weren't 'sacred' ground, just good places to hunt (as they had decimated the south plains buffalo).

    I hope it stands.
The term "Indian giver" applies more to the US government than it does to any full blood "Native".

    .
History confirms the white man decimated the buffalo to deprive the indian into submission. Not making judgement just pointing out a fact.

Yes, Sherman (Grant) and the railroads did a lot to decimate the buffalo, but by the time it happened, few were in the 'south' plains, mostly north. Note (from reservation map) that very few 'native' americans were from plains tribes, most 'chased' there by the Gov. from southeast! 'Singling them out is “overly simplistic,” says Bruce Shepard, the current president of the SEAAS, “because there is ample evidence, derived from a number of disciplines including archaeology, that the great herds were being significantly reduced north of the international boundary for nearly a century before the hide hunters even appeared.” ' Another interesting note, no buffalo have been connected to the Mississippi culture 'natives' of 9-10K yrs ago! Those peoples numbered (estimated) in the 1-2M population in the southern plains states. Large population of Lakotas didn't want to farm or raise cattle, chose hunter gatherer type of existence.
Another interesting historical fact - no people 'own' the land, just those that have the biggest/baddest army 'possess ' the land.
