Anyone in oilfield industry seeing any layoffs yet? I've been working out here in both Frac and as a driver for three yrs now is this the time to start looking for something else or maybe things will bet better?
The media wants this to be a big hit to the oil industry. They keep running stories about people losing jobs.
Some of the lay offs around Christmas were due to normal cycles of companies running out of drilling budget at the end of the year.
I work closely with service companies like vac and hot oil trucks and they have not let up much at all.
let's be real. $60/bbl oil is not good for the industry or oil companies in the stock market, but it's great for the consumer. FACK the congress and rep's talking about a gasoline tax. FINALLY something goes in the direction of joe 6-pack and the gubberment wants to add tax ?!?! wtf.
Hell, last time gas was this expensive (cheap) for me was in 2004-2005 ish when I bought a motorcycle in protest, gas rose to 2.39 and I thought it was the end of the world as we know it (kidding).
When I graduated from College in 2000 ish, I was paying 1.89/gallon in Michigan's far north UP (Hancock) so this dip is EPIC.
stop subsidizing ethanol.....I can't imaging how upside down those gubberment green initiatives are right now in their ethanol pot smoking pipe dreams.
Will, last I checked my company is still hiring for crude oil drivers. If anybody is looking I am currently showing openings in South and Eastern Texas. PM me let you in on what details I know.
Back in late 2008, gas prices in San Antonio dropped to $1.44/gal. I had just bought a economical Toyota hatchback, and remember filling it up for under $20.
I work with a lady whose husband does equipment maintenance for drilling sights, she says his company is talking about letting people go if prices dip any further...
