I apologize to the multiple parties who told me they wanted a heads-up if I ever decided to sell this. Those conversations were so long ago that they've dropped off my conversation list and my memory isn't good enough to remember who you were.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked this up about a decade ago. There's no practical way to mount an optic and my eyes have reached the point that I can't use the sights very well. It's time for it to go to someone else who can enjoy it as much as I have. I'm sorry I won't be able to bring it to any more gatherings and let everyone shoot it. Those of you who have shot it know what it feels like.

This is a Norinco 86S bullpup. They are rare; I've seen estimates that 100 came into the country before the ban. Also 400. Also a dozen other numbers that people seem to have pulled from their backsides. I have no idea.

I bought it because I thought it would be fun; it has been. I've never had a failure to feed, fire or eject. It's a bit gassy to shoot and it does not lend itself to bench testing so I have no idea what sort of accuracy it has. I do know that when my disabled neighbor next door was attacked in his driveway by a relative, this was the rifle I grabbed on the way out the door. (The attacker seemed to have an instant change of heart, btw, and nothing came of the incident.)

I know that unfired, never-removed-from-box, mint examples are considered highly collectible and are bumping up against $5K price tags at auction. This is not one of those. It's a fun gun that has been used more than a little but not abused, thus the price shouldn't be anywhere near that of a new one.

The condition is pretty clear from the pictures but three condition notes are needed.
    • The front sight rusted and broke long before I got the rifle. I had a new front sight made that works fine but it's a bit too tall. I get a perfect zero for elevation when the front sight is screwed all the way down. That suits me fine (YMMV) but it means that the front sight post acts as a set screw to prevent the front sight from moving side to side. Thus, to zero the rifle, you must
      1. elevate the front sight,
      2. accept that you'll be printing low on the target,
      3. set the windage with the proper tool (included), and, finally
      4. screw the front sight all the way down again. It's bothersome to remember all this but it's not any sort of fatal flaw.
    • The duckbill brake (or whatever it is) that's screwed to the front of the barrel is very loose. The way it's attached means that it won't fall off or touch an exiting projectile but it does rattle. I had an AK-specialist gunsmith check out the rifle for headspace and general condition when I got it. His opinion was that "They're all like that and it's just something you accept." I didn't like the sound of that but time has proven him correct in that it's no impediment to enjoying the rifle. The fact that he wanted the rifle from me so badly he could taste it was encouraging, too. (He offered me everything but money. :))
    • The cleaning kit(?) is present. You can see it shoved into the skeletonized butt of the rifle. I'm told these are sometimes missing.
    $2500

Below the pictures are the terms of sale. I've tried to make them complete so as not to disappoint anyone or cause disagreements. I'm sorry it's a wall of text but I can't find a better way.

Conditions, provisos, and other language designed to cover my butt -

I can take more pictures for anyone who needs them to make a decision. Just let me know what spot(s) you want me to focus on.

Questions in this thread or by PM are welcome though I may not reply promptly.

The person who commits to buy it has every right to inspect it at delivery and nix the deal; I would not be in the least offended. I will not re-negotiate the price at delivery but I don't mind completely unwinding the deal and taking the rifle back home. Since this is a high-priced item, I'm willing to meet at my closest rifle range (Spring Guns and Ammo in Spring) and allow you to test-fire the rifle. That is, after all, the best way to inspect a potential purchase, isn't it? I'll pay your range fee and bring the ammo.

First "I'll take it" in this thread, followed up promptly with a PM to discuss particulars, gets it.

A note to help prevent disappointment: The first "I'll take it" in this thread means exactly that. If you think you want something but are only 90% sure, you can send me a question or post it here. But if I'm away from the computer for 2 hours and someone else jumps in here and posts "I'll take it" before you do, they get the gun, not you. That's disappointing to a potential buyer and I don't like it when it happens. To prevent that scenario, if you're 90% sure you want something, go ahead and post:

    I'll take it...

...conditional on the question I'm sending you. PM inbound.

Other folks can also post "I'll take it if the deal above me falls through." I have no problem keeping track of multiple potential buyers as long as they get in line in a single publicly visible place. In the past, people have created animosity/drama by accepting offers through multiple sources, e.g. in the thread or PMs or email or a phone call or a text, etc. That method has the potential for lots of hurt feelings because multiple people believe they are first in line. I am completely intolerant of creating even the slightest impression that a sale is, in any way, less than above board.

This thread, using the "I'll take it" language, is the place to commit to the purchase. Nowhere else.

I won't post anything for sale here that's also listed elsewhere. If I feel this won't sell here, I'll close the ad before listing it elsewhere or shipping to an auction house.

I'm in Spring, north of Houston. If you're willing to meet me halfway, I'm willing to drive to meet you in a public place to make the sale. For a gun at this price, that will be a ways, say ~100 miles.

Terms are cash only, daytime only, F2F only (no shipping), and no trades. A quick look at your LTC is preferred but a TDL works, too. I won't try to copy the info. I hope I don't have to ask and that you'll volunteer that you are NOT a prohibited person.

Since I'm not in the business of selling guns, I will not do a bill of sale nor will I do a "bill of transfer." :)

Sold to AndrewBuda. I'm convinced the rifle is in better hands now. He impresses me as the kind of guy you want to deal with.

Thanks to all for the interest. More odd items forthcoming. As I've said before if anyone has ever seen/shot one of my guns that interests you, let me know.
