They're gonna have to change it to a swivel mount like the Navy has (the difference is mentioned in the article, along with the fact that this mount, while innovative, also obstructs the door) but it's pretty badass. Sad that they couldn't follow through with the twin minigun idea.

Wouldn’t a single minigun put out more rounds than this double gun set-up?

They have mini guns in the door gunner spot on each side. This add more firepower to the rear of the door behind of the mini gun.

240s are very handy to have when your aircraft can’t fly anymore in bad guy territory. Aside from that a second minigun would be better.

1200 rounds of ammo is pathetic. Those single row ammo cans are fancy looking though. The ammo comes in 1500 round cans, seems like they could have just made the mount support the can and develop a lid that feeds the ammo consistently.

Miniguns can run off of AC power, but they work alot better on DC so not sure I buy the “couldn’t provide enough power” claim. More like they didn’t want to pay money to upgrade to DC guns.

The mount is dumb, plenty better options if they spent the time and money. For a gunship it isn’t a real big deal though, but then again a Mk 47 would be a better choice for a gunship too. This sounds like a homemade solution that didn’t get much R&D funding. I give them props for ingenuity. Hopefully they get the system they were going for. Armor for the door gunners would be cool too.

I bet dual 240s with spade grips is fun to shoot though.
