NY AG: "Seeking to dissolve the NRA is the most aggressive sanction we could have sought against the not-for-profit organization, which we have jurisdiction over because it is registered in New York. The NY AG has a wide range of authorities relating to nonprofits in the state, including the authority to force organizations to cease operations or dissolve."
Using the NY AG logic, other states could do the same with 501c3 non-profits they don't like as well...thinking Planned Parenthood (not sure what jurisdiction they fall under).

In trying to shoot down the NRA, the NY AG is also shooting at ME. Even those of you that hate the NRA for whatever reason, don't think that you're not also in the line of fire.

No doubt in my mind that the NRA needs to clean house. There's also no doubt that NY is going after them because the NRA has been the most effective political tool gun owners have had. PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF FIREARMS IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SOCIALISM. NY is run by Cuomo and Schumer and their socialist buddies, and they will do everything in their power to remove any roadblocks to total control.

The NRA is not the most effective gun rights organization. Havn't been for at least as long as WLP has been there. They are simply the most recognizable.
The way they are attacking the NRA, they don't have to prove that they actually did much if anything illegal. More importantly, if they did ANYTHING illegal no matter how slight, they don't have to prove WHO did it. Or that anyone in authority knew about it. Just that it was done. It doesn't even have to be anything big. Enough small procedurally questionable things is enough.
They then have a weapon, and court precedent, to use use against every other rights organization the left doesn't like.
The NRA has been going downhill for a LONG time. By their own choice. And needs to change.
But this way would not be good for anyone but the far left.

Two months until the election results...we’re going to see more events as they grow more and more desperate.

I agree that's very possible. I think their ultimate goal is Trump from getting re-elected. Everything else is just seeing what they can throw and sticks that they can use for the ultimate goal of getting at Trump.

IIRC, the NRA was one of Trump's big supporters, and endorsers during the election of 2016. So it stands to reason for this attack on the NRA.

Anyone who thinks this is about the NRA is sadly and badly mistaken.

I am not a fan of the organization, but it is the most well-known 2A lobby out there which is why the NY AG is going after it.

Honestly, if she was going after people who skim money off their organizations, wouldn't her own political party be on the top of that list?

No, this is about gun rights. The NRA is just her easy target as they're in her state.

Don't let the enemy control the battlefield. If changes in the NRA are necessary, then make them from within.

And move the damn organization to Texas. Who cares how long they've been in NY! That state is one of the worst offenders for gun rights. The NRA should've left a long time ago...

I totally agree that WLP has overstayed his time with the NRA and needs to move on, or fall. Sad fact is if he falls, what effect will that have on the NRA as a whole? Better? Or worse?
From an article on Town Hall by Mark Vespa: "Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit, filed in Manhattan state court, highlighted misspending and self-dealing claims that have roiled the NRA and its longtime leader, Wayne LaPierre, in recent years — from hair and makeup for his wife to a $17 million post-employment contract for himself." Post-employment contract? $17 million of member's dues for what?

For the foresight to set himself up with a post-employment contract!

Since I wanted to post to this thread some more, I figured I'd link to what I posted under Politics this last Tuesday...
    Maybe a moderator could delete the now duplicate post. (Or whatever it takes.}
So here's another well written article about what's going on in New York, and how more than just the NRA is at stake.

Between the AG, Cuomo, the Safe Act, etc., I couldn't get out of New York fast enough. Went up there to help out my parents, but I'm much happier down here in Texas. If they'd get their act together and pass Constitutional Carry here, I'd be even happier.
