Neighbor wants to sell this gun and I know zip about SKS.
It is Chinese ( assuming this from the writing) but can not find anything on the stamp.

Any help would be appreciated in determining what offer I make( if any)

Best I can tell it is Triangle 016 or 416 stamp. I think between the picture clarity and bottom of the stamp hiding under the stock that it is.

17 million range would place it as made around 1973/74. That is of course of that specific arsenal followed the same date system as the Jianshe Arsenal /26\

Did not take pic of whole gun. No rust, seems decent ( except for mod to take detachable mags, but easy enough to unfuck)
Is the original box mag with it? If so please say 20 round so I can buy it lol.

If no box mag with the gun regardless of capacity that will hurt the price. Sks’s purists like myself look at a missing box mag or bayonet as if the world has just ended.

It looks like 016 to me. If I remember right most were factory 26 followed by 306. Almost all I've seen have been those 2 factories. As said above if it has the mag and bayo I'd jump on it.

This is from my ...SKS Disassembly and reassembly for all models book...

HOW TO TELL THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.

Russian models usually have two Cyrillic characters followed by four numerals

The Soviet and East German weapons usually carry the year of manufacture and the serial number on the front left of the receiver.

Chinese weapons have three Chinese symbols usually followed by seven or eight numbers. Later models have the spike bayonets. Mine has the blade bayonet and was made in 1955 and is number 4 out of 4,000,000,000.

North Korean SKS have "63" stamped on the receiver cover.

East German versions have a hole through the stock for attaching the lower end of the sling swivels.

Yugoslav M59/66 are very to identify due to their prominent spigot-type grenade launcher permanently attached to the muzzle.

    I hope this helps.
