...but you still have to buy gas for the new car on top of that. The best value car is almost always the one you already own. It makes more sense that it isn't actually your car ;)

The Jetta will have the same maintenance costs and slightly less reliablity than a 3-series BMW. A Subaru will have worse reliablity, but at least the maintenance will be cheaper. Mazda is ok, but Toyota would be much better. The Focus is kind of a cheap car. Cost being the same, I would get something else. Don't know anything about the Fusion...

I sold it a few years ago. I'm sure if the right person bought it, it's still going. I wouldn't bet against a Corolla, tho... How many miles do you have on yours?

That's nothing. My 02 F350 has 580,000 miles on it. My son in law drives it now. The clutch didn't work for me anymore after I tore my meniscus in my bad knee, and I didn't like the 2017 models so I got me a 2016 F350 on closeout. I've only got 110k on it so far, so we'll have to see how it holds up compared to the old one.

    Now that's impressive.

We're at 120,000 on the clock of our 2011 Expedition. Hoping to push that to 200,000 at least.

Well, after looking at far more sedans than any rational person would ever want to look at, I have come to one conclusion. What I want does not really exist within my price range. There were quite a few cars that were ok, but none that I really fell in love with.

As a result, I reevaluated what I want vs what I need. I need a car of my own that gets decent enough gas mileage. I do not need a people carrier capable of holding a lot of junk, it does not have to be that new, and it's ok if it has more than 100,000 miles as long as it's generally reliable and easy to work on.

So this is what I am very heavily leaning towards.

I just got out of my ‘16 Camaro SS because I needed the room to haul people and stuff, and don’t care about gas mileage. So, the SS has been replaced with a ‘19 Charger Scat Pack. The Camaro was awesome - quite fast stock, an incredibly good handling car, and would average 31mpg on the freeway at 80mph.

Pretty much what everyone else said - Civic or Corolla. That said, don't discount a Kia Forte or Hyundai Elantra. We have had both and both were excellent econo drivers. The Elantra Coupe was actually kinda sporty. The Koreans have come a long way. I think the new Genesis G70 was Motor Trend COTY.

Edited to see that you are now looking at a 07 Mustang GT?? I guess the heart wants what the heart wants cuz that is nothing like your initial desire.

Yeah, it was kind of a realization that I wanted something more than just a vehicle to get me from point A to point B. I guess that's one of the perks of being young, single, and probably a little stupid. I'm in a position where I can get something a little less practical without too much headache.

Glad you've found what you want. There's a vehicle out there for everyone. For me, I just picked up another JDM gem for daily driver duties. We're getting rid of our handicap conversion van as I'm much more mobile now. I still wanted some of the utility of a van, but desired something more unique. I picked up a 1994 Mitsubishi Delica L400 with the 2.8liter turbodiesel. It had under 100,000km on the odo, and it's really tight with no leaks.

3 valve 4.6L's are the suck. There is a reason they are cheap now. I would much rather have an older 2 valve.

I have to drive about 80 miles a day, 4-5 days a week for my new job, and the old 96' Silverado is killing me on gas. It's getting probably around 14-16 MPH on the highway. It's time for something new.

    Here's what I'm looking for.

    30+ MPG on the highway
    Under $10,000
Less than 100,000 miles, preferably less than 50,000 if it's close to maxing out my budget
    4 door sedan or hatchback
No older than 2010, preferably newer.
    Reliable and low maintenance
Preferably something kind of sporty, or at least sporty looking.

I've looked at quite a few cars already, but very few are really getting me exited. One I keep coming back to is the 2017 Ford Focus SE Hatchback. The previous year models (IIRC, 2012-2016) had horrible tranny issues, but they seem to have fixed it in the 2017 model. There's a 2017 not to far from me with 46,000 miles for $9,000.

My first car was a 2003 Focus SE, and I loved that little thing. It might not of had much power, but man was that a nice handling car. Driving it for even long periods was stupidly easy and comfortable. I found myself in a no win situation and ended up rolling it down an embankment outside of Quitman Texas a few years back. I miss that car. :(

The Dodge Dart has also caught my eye, but I know very little about them.

    Any suggestions?
I also drive 80 miles a day 4+ days a week. I also employ a commuter car to save gas. I still have my truck, but I don't drive it to work unless i need to haul something.
I purchased a 2005 Ford Focus ZXW wagon with 35,000 miles on it 6 years ago for $6500. It gets 31 MPG, handles great, and has been trouble free so far. I think I'm at about 130k now, and it has been one of the best investments I've made.

^^^ Plus you aren’t racking up the miles on an expensive truck, saving a LOT in depreciation
