Mostly assist and augment Texas military and civil authorities through emergency management, medical, light search and rescue, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, etc.

The TXSG functions under the authority of Title 32 of the U.S. Code and Chapter 431 of the Texas Government Code. As the Governor of Texas has sole control over the Texas State Guard, it is not subject to federal activation unlike our Army and Air National Guard counterparts.

It's all volunteer, and the only per diem is when you are on orders ($129/day regardless of rank).

I am getting ready to retire from the Texas Army National Guard next year and may consider the State Guard as a way to keep serving. I have worked with them for many years while in my current position at Camp Swift. State Guard is made up of some great guys.
