I understand where you are coming from, but at least you get paid a benefit for getting your work done early in some cases. In the salaried employee world the only thing you get for getting your work done early is...you guessed it, more F*ing work...

I worked more hours last year than I have in the last 5 all of which were unpaid overtime, but I actually enjoy my work so it wasn't as frustrating as one would think...

Employers of "At Will" employees give zero notice when they fire an employee. A lady who worked in the office was fired with zero notice when she ended a a personal relationship with a lead man on the production line. He was tight with the personnel man and when she came to work the next day, she had no job. That's exactly what I gave them....zero notice. F--- 'em.

Recently, I was offered $100/hour as a hydraulic system troubleshooter for a trucking company.

I was interested because the ultra long permit load trucks had hydraulic lifting equipment and were so long that rear wheel steering was needed to negotiate a turn. It was very sophisticated equipment! But.......rest easy. It was straight hourly wage with no benefits. It was on call and would work only as needed. When the equipment returned to the terminal, I would be paid to supervise periodic maintenance so the rig would be ready for the next job. All expenses, travel and per diem paid, though. Nice little side job! I decided that I'd rather ride my bicycles, Harley and play with my little dog, Jake.

Don't feel too bad Sage. I have a contract in writing, but it basically says them own me

The only good thing is I get a large severance package if they let ever let me go.

In my 20+ yrs. in Houston I have been hired & layed off 3 times (each) by two different companies, & one of them tried to get me to come back a 4th time...and there were a few more layoffs as well besides them.

    Just crunching the numbers.
at 10 an hour 40 hours is $400.
56 hour work week Adjusted to 1.5 rate that's 64 hours of pay. 640. So your loosing 62% of pay.
Find a new job that pays over time.

Everything comes down to perspective. To me a 72hr work week sound likes a vacation.

Seriously considering demanding $5 an hour raise today.
I see no issue with telling your boss that your Saturdays cost $5 more an hour. If he really needs you he'll pay it, or he'll ask someone else. He'll probably write on your next review that you are "not a team player" because of it, but that matters little.

I'll let you in on a little secret, when a private for-profit company really values you they give you more $$.

I'd ask how much they value you.

    Exactly.

I've been thinking about it, and I'm definitely going to approach. Pretty sure I'll have time to do that tomorrow (already knocked out 38 hours this week). I'm going to bring up the give-and-take of any relationship, and point out that all they've been doing lately is take.
