    Good catch there TexMex.

I've been too wrapped up in off-hand shooting (silhouette, RFC off-hand matches) to do much bench work. Since I've got a new CZ 452 I may have to sit down and try one of these targets soon.
Stepping up your game with the CZ??

As if what you were shooting before wasn't good enough??

Have you posted pics of this new rifle and I missed it??

Nope, I've been trying to fly under the radar.

Here's a stock photo that will have to do for the moment...

    Nice!!

How does it shoot compared to your Ruger?

Or are you not willing to disclose that information yet?

Still figuring out what ammo it likes, but so far it's "out of the box" performance is about the same as my modified 10/22.

You can be assured that more testing and more tweaking will occur!

Well, this last weekend, I finally found a good batch of ammo my rifle is happy with. I shot 4 practice targets and 2 scorers at 50 yards. Shot a 96 w/at least 1 bullseye on one of my 2 scorers.

Seemed like I couldn't miss until I had 2 outside the 9 ring. I still have 2 scorers left to shoot, 1 more point and I'm knocking on the door of Marksman status at 50.

I've heard a lot of talk over the last few years about everybody's highly accurate .17s but I have yet to see someone post a decent scoring target. Let's see what y'alls fancy rifles can do.

When you say 17s I suspect you mean the HMR?

If so, I will shoot some targets soon. I will do some at 50, and some at 100.

When Tejano scott started the competition there were grumblings about how the 17s had an advantage over other rimfires. The competition has always been open to any small bore rimfire from the 22 mag to .17s of any kind.

Considering that a true bullseye has to completely knock out the inner printed ring, I personally never thought of the smaller diameter round as having any advantage.

To be even slightly competitive, your rifle will need to be capable of sub 1/2" groups at 50 yards. Sounds easy enough but pretty humbling when you start to put rounds on paper.

I have been shooting exclusively in an outdoor setting where the elements sometimes take the challenge from difficult to near impossible on a windy day. I assume the 17s or mags could buck the wind a bit better.

The magnum rounds, maybe. Don't have any experience with them.

However, even a light breeze will effect the HMR at 100.

Where I shoot outdoors there is usually a 6-10 mph cross breeze, and I have been shooting when it shifts. It can make a difference of 1-2 inches sometimes.

Decided to hit the range this morning and shoot 4 targets with the .17 HMR.

70-80° and overcast. Breeze started about 4 mph and built to about 7 by the time I finished. It was shifty fro my 6-7 o'clock position during the session.

I was using my Savage 93R17 BTV topped with a BSA Sweet 17 scope set to max power. Ammo was Hornady 20gr HP XTP for all the shooting. I cleaned the bore with a BoreSnake and fired 10 fouling rounds before both 50 and 100 yard shoots.

At 50 yards I scored an 86-2x and 81-0x. Here is the best group I put up when not shooting the scoring targets:

At 100 yards I scored a 61-0x and 58-0x. Here is my best group at 100:

There is definite room for improvement. However, I am satisfied with my 50 yard results even though the HMR is said to be a more accurate round.

I just got around to reading all of that again. So to get to Marksman, you have to shoot a minimum of 97-0? So you stay a rookie until then?

You can do lots of good shooting and still be a rookie...

First practice target. Didnt do too bad! I really need a higher power scope and a little more trigger work. Didnt realize how much concentration goes into something like this!

If i scored it right, its a 92-0x.

    Damn!

March 11 was the last time someone posted here.

We need to bust out those .22's and .17's more often!

Might do this one too. Going to try to get my AR out next week for the centerfire chalenge anyway. I used the same target for it at 100 yards. Besides, this is the target I used to sight in my .22s last week. Doubt if I will do that good but I can try.

I agree. I need to break out the Anschutz and shoot a few of these for score. I had even changed the optic, just never have had the time to take it out since I'm always playing with NFA toys these days.
