I know an independent guy that builds and sells AK type of rifles... Well, I called him today and explained that I was thinking of selling my SAR 3 (5.56) to get a version that is a larger caliber (7.62x39). We said that he would make an even trade. He mentioned that he'll add what ever I wanted like a scope mount, AR collapsible stock, etc... At first I was like, "that's a good idea". But, then I started thinking "He never saw the gun, so is there anything that special about the 5.56 vs 7.63?"

I also learned that he can get me a version that shoots .308. I thought that would be cool... (I could be wrong) Seems like you can get a larger variety of .308s vs 7.62x39. But you can get FMJs 7.62x39 fairly cheap.

Since I have 2 AR-15s and would love to have an AR-10, but those bad boys are impossible to find, I figure upgrading the SAR 3 to a larger caliber would be my next cheapest / easiest thing...
