I keep mine set on "do not disturb". Have it setup where only a specific few saved contacts can bypass the do not disturb.

If I did that, I would miss calls from new customers.

It's not really the phone function. It is a long list of other things that annoy me about it, so I got a cell enabled watch and can leave the POS phone in a drawer when ever possible

Customer's don't seem to have any issue leaving a voicemail for me.

If it's really that big of an issue you might want to look into hiring an answering service.They can even use your calendar to schedule appointments for you.
