I'm Looking for a Gunsmith to do a "bobtail" conversion on 1911.

Seriously considering having my Colt Combat Commander converted to a "Bobtail" griip configuration (along with an action job and maybe removing the sharp edges). I would like to get information about those smiths that specialize in that type of conversion. I know Hank Fleming on S. Congress in Austin does that but don't know much about them except what I read in the gunsmith list thread (and he and his partner get pretty good reviews). Anyone have any other gunsmith recommendations that do that kind of work in the Central or Southe Central Texas area? Any info or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

If I was going to have that done to mine I would have Clark's in Shreveport do it,I know that is not in Texas But I know Jim and his people do good work.

Thanks, I'll check out his website. Houston is 5 + hour trip for me but it may be worth it. Work the trip into a vacation maybe.

I heard that Hank Flemming in Austin does good work I almost used him but sent the firearm back to the factory, I was suggested to use him by Dawson precision and a couple people I shoot IDPA with.

Hank was one of my first recommendations. I contacted him and was given a price of $175 (if I remember correctly).
