Elsewhere on this forum there has been discussions about blue states passing new anti-2A laws after the SCOTUS Buren decision. Now IL is doing its best to double down on that theme. In the Land of Lincoln they have the votes to pass this bill.

In this video Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses the ongoing game of "oneupsmanship" occurring between several very blue states who are feverishly competing with each other to see which one can eviscerate their citizens' Second Amendment Rights the quickest.

As proposed IL HB 5855 would just about ban any and all semi-automatic pistols, rifles and shotguns along with 10 rd magazine ban. This would help IL catch up with OR who's new Measure 114 goes into effect today. OR's law can have the effect to stop all gun sales without a state permit. And there is no means now to get this permit as there is no training setup yet which is required before getting permit.

    That's not quite accurate.

Every single part of Measure 114 is now on hold until at least March 7 or after; per Court Order, the State must have permitting process functional before the full trial on the Measure's Constitutionality will be held.

Pre tell. How does SCOTUS enforce decisions? You think Garland is going to enforce anything?

If LEO’s attempt to enforce laws deemed unconstitutional by the courts, we will have a constitutional crises between the executive and judicial branches…IMHO it will kickoff the Big Igloo.

    From WTTW News website:
"A ban on so-called assault weapons could soon become law in Illinois.

On Monday evening (1/9/2023), the Illinois state Senate passed an assault weapons bill with some changes to the version passed by the House on Friday. The bill will now return to the House for a concurring vote before heading to the governor’s desk."

    Interesting comment

Thanks for sharing. I have been following Washington Gun Law YoulTube channel for these NY developments. All of these blue state new gun laws to get around the SCOTUS Bruen decision are getting called into court and not doing so well.

This wont survive Constitutional scrutiny; and the lawsuits have probably already been filed.

But in the meantime... it's a good cautionary tale.

    From the article:

"The legislation bans dozens of specific brands or types of rifles and handguns, .50-caliber guns, attachments and rapid-firing devices. No rifle will be allowed to accommodate more than 10 rounds, with a 15-round limit for handguns.

Those who already own such guns will have to register them, including serial numbers, with the Illinois State Police. ... "
