    I think it is bad luck to speculate I want Trump reelected anything else at this time would give the dems a greater chance of winning. If it was someone else it would be a rino that we didn't pick. Besides billary wants to run again and that would be fun to watch it against the Trumpster.

    I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve fought alongside Mattis and the men he led. He’s at the top of leaders I’d follow anywhere.

    I feel he handled his resignation with respect; he served at the leisure of the President and when he recognized that his experience and advice was no longer valued, he did the right thing.

    Mattis was never a yes man, yet he always respected his duty.

    I was really hoping he’d convince Trump to let him win and be done with the ME. He seems to be more of a strategic personnel in certain places over there, kind of guy. And while that does have some merit, I know he’s well read enough to know the history over there. We can’t win except for annihilation and even then, like roaches, eventually they’d resurface.

    Given the nature of his fall out with President Trump, he's no longer someone I admire.
    That fallout was due to Trump's horrible foreign policy views and his ego's inability to stand anyone who disagrees with him. {I do like most of the Trump administrations accomplishments, but Trump does have some serious flaws - this is one of them.}

    I admire Mattis even more now.

    "That fallout was due to Trump's horrible foreign policy"

    So, we should remain in perpetuity in the M.E.?

    Mattis’ resignation was driven by many factors, but I’ll let his letter speak for itself.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/20/us/politics/letter-jim-mattis-trump.html

    He very clearly states his views on strategic alliances differed from the President’s and, as such, his resignation must be rendered.

    If you want to believe that Trump’s vacillating position on US forces in Syria is the underlying reason, I would urge you to read this interview with Mattis, published last week in The Atlantic.

    I certainly respect Mattis as a general and military strategist, but I don't think one should run the country in that capacity.
