For the movie buffs on this forum you know all about the quote. Number 12 of top 100 movie quotes according to the American Film Institute. But do you know the rest of story in the making of this film and scene. For a fun look behind the camera you might want to watch this series of videos on the movie. Remember "Charlie don't surf!"

    Axxe55,

Yes, and one I watch every 2 years.

Love the 'inner dialogue' by Captain Willard played by the actor Martin Sheen...hated his politics, but he did a great job with his role...and the cast was 'outstanding' as we used to say in the U.S. Army back when...

Which one? The 1979 original or the 2001 "Redux" version.

    The original.

    There's another...?

It's an extended cut of the original version.

In 2001, Coppola released Apocalypse Now Redux in cinemas and subsequently on DVD. This is an extended version that restores 49 minutes of scenes cut from the original film. Coppola has continued to circulate the original version as well: the two versions are packaged together in the Complete Dossier DVD, released on August 15, 2006, and in the Blu-ray edition released on October 19, 2010.

Watched it recently. Liked the Redux. So many stars in that movie. Duvall, Harrison Ford, Martin Sheen, Hopper, Brando, Sam Bottoms, Fishburn.

Its really long, but I rarely get up during that movie.

Agree on the narration by Sheen. Classic.

Apocalypse Now: Redux is pretty much the movie that Coppola wanted to release, but didn't because of the length of the film. They pretty much just re-edited the film to include footage that didn't make it into the 1979 version.

IMO, it really doesn't change the movie too much. Still a good movie.
