Howdy! My name is Sam, and I'm from the small town of Milano, TX. Thanks for the acceptance. Looking forward to all the "wisdom" available here.

Curious if anyone knows where a fella could find an authentic breakover cap gun. As a boy I had an imitation browning side x side. Metal barrel, wood stock everything seemed "real" except it shot caps. This is what my father gave me as a 4 year old, when he took me bird hunting, and he used it as a training tool for me. It had ample enough weight for a child to learn the muscle memory and mechanics of swinging on a bird, and you better believe I was chastised for every barrel mistake I made. Sticking it in the ground, and of course for pointing at anyone or anything I shouldn't have. I look back on that time with that cap gun so fondly. I can still remember the feeling of being able to have my very own gun, and it was indispensable in my firearm safety education.

Around 8 or 9 I graduated to youth model 28 gauge Remington 870, which I still have, and it is waiting for usage by my kiddos when they are big enough. But the old cap gun is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know where I could find something like that? I've found one that is close but it has a plastic barrel.

    Thanks for the help!

    Welcome in.
Not sure I can help you, but cool story and concept.
I used to take a break barrel pellet gun rabbit hunting with my Dad. Maybe that is an option.

Ebay is pretty much gonna be your best bet.

I found this site that looks promising, but I've never heard of 'em and don't know if they're trustworthy. Also, the search includes real guns with the cap guns and water guns, so be careful you don't wind up accidentally buying yourself a nice shotgun to enjoy.

I actually found one of the most sought after bad guy guns, the dreaded 'Ghost Gun' on eBay.
    Don't tell anyone.

Invaluable is sort of an auction aggregator; Liveauctions.com is another. I have bought through both of them with no issues, which is more than I can say for eBay.

So what exactly is a "breakover" cap gun.
It was a cap gun, that in everyway looked like a break action shotgun. Rather than a fully functioning firearm that fired a shot shell, it was just kids toy gun, that "fired" a cap.

Just loud enough to give a boy the feeling and authenticity of shooting, in safe way.

If you timed it up just right you could swing on a bird, and pull the trigger in tandem with Dad, and you could watch the bird fall.

Lots of nostalgia, for me if you can't tell. But truly a great product.
