Can anyone recommend a good home security lighting consultant/installer? I want to upgrade the outdoor lighting on my house with automatic off (daylight), low power (normal nighttime), and high power (motion sensing) lighting. I am not a do-it-myselfer when it come to electrical. Austin area.

    AustinN4,

At our last house, we had a motion detector light.

    It cried 'wolf' a lot.

A slight breeze would cause tree branches to sway or a cat or most anything would set it off.

Could it have been calibrated to not be so sensitive?

Beats me, but now we don't have one, but still I'd like some kinda night time security.

What I'm considering is 'remote cameras', but like you would have to have someone do the installing.

Fortunately, we live a low crime area, but there's no such thing as a 'safe' neighborhood, so...

Lights, even with whatever false activations there may be. That is the topic and my request for installer information.

    ZX,

As is often the case, I'm being facetious!

Actually, since Cabelas is having a sale, some sort of cameras may be in the offing....

I installed 3 of these. They were on sale at one time at home depot. Ring door bell as well. These are ring camera motion sensor floodlights.

I installed them into existing boxes that already had floodlights in them. Two in front on either side of the house and one in back at the back door along with the door bell and electronic locks on the doors all coordinated very well.

I installed eight lights and cameras many years ago. The motion activation works pretty good, but you will have to play with it get it the way you want it.

There are both wired and wireless camera systems, but lights will need an electrical connection. Most any electrician can install the lights. Electricians can also install wired camera systems. Installing wireless cameras is as simple as mounting them with screws.

I prefer cameras over lights, but that's just me. I have the security system base on my desk with a computer screen attached to it. It sits next to my computer monitor so I can watch it when on the computer. Also have a mobile app that allows remote monitoring. I really like this system. Being able to record the cameras is a plus.

Now I'm thinking of getting a couple of wireless cameras for inside the house. Turn them on only when we're not home.

Ring offers wireless cameras with lights.
    All battery powered.
    No physical connection.
I have one with lights for my driveway.
    The rest are just cameras.
They all are capable of speaking through from my phone as well.

If you go with the wireless Ring stuff, you literally screw it up where you want it and you're done.
I believe the larger ones take 4 wood screws.
    The smaller, just 2.

ETA: I'm computer illiterate, and it's easy to do.

But then I'll have to get a smart phone, which I have been trying to get through life without.

Actually it only requires a computer, if no smartphone.
A tablet would be nice, then you would get alerts anywhere you are.

ETA: It doesn't "require" a computer, only if no phone or tablet.
    I misspoke.

Vmax has some really nice solar charged LED units out at his ranch. They emit a very soft light for "navigating the yard" until they detect motion. Then they get really bright for about 30 seconds after the motion stops.
Maybe he'll chime in with the Amazon link. I'd like a few myself.

    I bought some of these.
    They work fairly well.
