Hexayurt - Model and Plans

Planning a Hexayurt. With a family of 6 and two dogs it'll be a step above a tent if things go sideways.

Figure I'd build three or four models to see what they are talking about. The material is foam board at $1 each. This is four boards cut into 10x5in peices that made a model 20in high in the middle.

Amazing how sturdy it is and how easy the cuts are once you have a 2x by 1x board.

Here's my first attempt.

For the models it is the dollar foam board from dollar general or dollar tree.

For the real thing I'm still undecided. The good stuff is $40 a sheet the r max is about $23 a sheet. I will need 12 to 14 boards.

I lived in an arctic yurt in northern Alaska for 3 years...very decent shelters.

A bit bigger model this time. $12 investment.

It'd be ideal for something like that.

Most likely a full sized one will be used for a week of scout camp and other summer activities like an extra room when grandparents come up. Kids would sleep in the hexayurt in the back yard.

They use tie downs for strong winds.
