Has anyone used the "Cowboy" brand lump charcoal from Costco?

Is it better for grilling or smoking?

I have used it for grilling and mixed with wood for smoking purposes in my offset smoker. 50%-50% wood and lump charcoal.

I use B&B and add wood for smoke.

I use some lump charcoal for grilling and regular charcoal for building some coals for my wood on the smoker.

Lump charcoal generally also lasts longer and burns hotter for grilling than regular charcoal. Wood is better for smoking IMO.

Lump charcoal leaves less ash behind. Briquettes leave a lot of ash that is in reality sand or some other filler in addition to the ash.

It lights quicker and burns a little faster (more surface area) and a little hotter than briquets totally agree with the guy who says it works better for smoking with dampened wood chips than briquets.

I’ve never used it because every I known who has says it ain’t worth it. Lots of handling results in lumps breaking up into chunk pieces and dust.
