That’s a Tisas 1911a1 service special. Guess they call it that cause it’s not a true a1 clone like their others. Minor differences. Damn good looking, feeling and shooting gun though. I put a set of unissued GI surplus grips on it since the ones it comes with don’t have that chocolate brown look.

I thought it was the Tisas! I have the same one. Mine came with both black and gawd awful brown plastic grips. I have three Tisas-their plastic grips are just...ick.
I am currently using one to fit uniquely sourced granite grips. I'll return here with pics when done.

Very nice. Yea the grips that they come with are ok I guess but the texture and color isn’t as good as the actual surplus ones. Apparently they have some models now that come with Walnut at least. Granite grips sound interesting.

What are the other two you have? Im thinking of trying there 10mm at some point in the future. Wife wants a 9mm A1 as well.

He was a proper legend. Loved his 1911’s he built for Thief. I could never imagine owning a 1911 made by someone of his caliber and not shooting it lol.

Indeed he was. I've got a couple of 1911's he's worked over. My carry piece was a Colt Officers ACP. Can't shoot it anymore as my wrists are shot; both are fused. My nightstand piece is a Kimber TLR/LE that he went thru completely. He actually loosened it up a bit for reliability - I don't really care if it shoots 1" groups but it goes bang every time you pull the trigger. When he gave it back to me, he told me to run 2k rounds thru it before cleaning. It didn't choke once using all kinds of ammo. I've also got a few revolvers (he also really knew his way around a S&W) and rifles he worked on. All show a level of craftsmanship hard to find these days.
