No not at all. besides the fact that my 10 yr old daughter is tiny and would be bait, I would love to have some wild Gators in my back yard.

I told a joke above, and wouldn't hesitate to hunt a gator if I had a tag. But they have become one of my favorite animals.

Hike around Brazos Bend on an active day. They are amazing.
ESPECIALLY this time of year with the mating calls, a wee bit alarming 1st time

I'd not mind having them for a few reasons: First of all I am enthralled by herps. Secondly I am guessing having them in your pond is a sign of a good ecosystem and that's not a bad thing. Third, I'd get a license and hunt them, then eat them and sell the hides if legal (not all of them, just a number that would not decimate the population) so there would be more for the next hunt. (As I recall reading somewhere, you can only legally hunt them on private property in TX - is that right?) Heck, I imagine, if legal in TX, you also could make a profitable small scale hobby/business out of them like alligator farms in other states. Of course, if I had young children around, I'd probably not want them around but my young ones are 30 and 35 now. I'd also not want them around if I planned on wading or swimming in the pond but I detest leeches, just not quite as badly as Mr. Allnut (to get right to it, begin watching at 53 seconds through 1:49):

I had beavers in my lake at my backyard. Thought they were so cute too. Until they took down all of my 20 year old apple trees. Stihl couldn't have done it faster.

After writing my post, I did some checking on my own and found this on the TPWD site:
    • Alligators may only be taken on private property.
    • Alligators may be taken from pubilc water, however, the person and the taking device MUST be on private property.
    • Hook and line (line set) must be secured on private property with a portion of the line above water. Minimum 300 lb. test line.
So, while you technically may be able to hunt them while they are in public waters you cannot take them unless you are on private property - seems rather odd but that's the rule shown on the TPWD site.

Then indeed there was wisdom in the old adage: "Save a tree, eat a beaver."
