Yes, in East TX there’s actually a season. Some of them I’ll fry and smother with gravy and rice; the others I’ll probably do dumplings.

Not for me! My stepmom made the best squirrel and dumplings.

What was funny, she would call them chicken and dumplings, and me and my brother would snicker, because we knew they were squirrel and not chicken. She say that, so our stepsisters would eat them!

The squirrels are going crazy around here with the acorns!

somebody ate all the squirrels at my place. i only got 3 or so. i was pretty ticked till i noticed a fox had moved in. i miss rabbits and squirrels but having a fox around is pretty cool.

We have a LOT of squirrels and rabbits around here. The owls stick around for dinner here!

Haven't had squirrel in over 40 years. Might have to get out and put the ol' 22 to work and see what happens.

I’ve got about 20 of em that run ramped here among all the oak tree canopy (trees & squirrels are thick!) What the hell do they taste like? I’ve never eaten any squirrel.

Squirrel tastes sort of like chicken, but not like chicken! To me, it's very similar to the dark meat on a chicken.

Very lean meat, and it's flavor can change based on their diet. They can be cooked in a variety of ways, but I think the squirrel and dumplings method is probably the most common recipe, and my favorite way to enjoy squirrel.

Squirrel is dark meat and maybe like a cross between chicken and pork. Property prepared it has a mild flavor and takes on the flavors/spices it’s cooked with.
