Even with the best knives, the sheaths that come with them are frequently shockingly bad designs. Sometimes downright crap materials. Given that I'd expect to see a booming aftermarket in knife sheaths. But not so much. Many leather workers and some holstermakers do knife sheaths as well, but usually only on custom order. Same with Kydex sheaths. Bladetech will make you a sheath... if you send them your knife. I'd like a good Kydex sheath with an outer layer of Cordura for many of my knives, but it's really hard to find anyone who does that kind of work. I may have to learn to just do it myself.

I have an Old Timer skinner and the sheath on that has been great. Bought a new one that had a sheath made of nylon with a plastic insert. Not sure it will hold up like the leather.

Texas Knifemakers Supply has the kydex and parts (spacers, screws, snaps) . Jantz Supply Inc. is another good source for those supplies. There are also plenty of YouTube videos on the subject. I've done a few in Kydex, but I prefer using leather.

I do, did, kydex/leather highbred. Most times. I also did some leather.
It's not hard or complicated but you do need a kydex press.
All the places listed have most of the supplies. Texas Knife Supply has the best deals on blades. Knife Kits has the best deals on Kydex, tools and parts. Except for the leather parts. Tandy has the best prices for that.
    A couple of mine.

Thanks for the info, guys! I'm a little intimidated by leather working. Kydex should be much easier. Maybe once I've done a few I can try leather.
