So - I finished out last dove season with a nice 28 gauge O/U. Been buying ammo for it for next season. Local Academy had some ammo recently, and I went to the Federal web site. Check these only two listings for 7.5 shot:

Why on God's green earth would I buy the latter? Copper plated lead at a lower velocity? Lower muzzle velocity, same shot charge. Makes no sense.

    35 FPS isn’t a huge difference.

Maybe they confused copper with gold plating?

Copper-plating is supposed to reduce pellet deformation and improve pattern density, usually for heavy, long-range loads like turkey.

No clue why anyone would copper-plate 7.5s. Maybe to make the 28 gauge more suitable for pheasants or grouse?

You definitely don’t need or want copper-plating for dove.

BTW: what’s the make/model of your gun? I love O/Us and have long jonesed for a 28.

Some areas / game you can't hunt with lead shot. Dove hunting in TX, its not an issue. But dang, that's a huge difference.
