"AUSTIN (KXAN) — Most Texans are familiar with the Tax-Free Weekend that happens a few weeks before school starts, but did you know there’s a new sales tax holiday for items that can help you prepare for emergencies and severe weather?

New this year, Texans will be able to stock-up on emergency preparation supplies and not have to pay taxes on the items the weekend of April 23-25. The bill for the sales tax exemption was passed during last year’s legislative session."

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware of this either.

Wonder why chainsaws didn't make the list? After a major storm, that's something lots of folks need.

chainsaws WERE on the orginial list but during the final reading those damned anti chainsaw folks tossed in an amendment and ruined it.
    Anti-chainite bastards!

Bought small first aid kits for the cars, some Individual items to replace expiring ones, and a Midland ER200 crank radio for the house.

Individual supplies aren't being taxed either, so if you need to restock something that expires soon (ointments, creams, tincture of benzoin), today is a good day for it.

I'm appalled that items that are exempt "once a year", arent exempt year 'round.

    These items are really necessities.
    Much like "certain grocery items".
