Building one wind turbine requires 900 tons of steel, 2,500 tons of concrete and 45 tons of nonrecyclable plastic. Solar power requires even more cement, steel and glass—not to mention other metals. Global silver and indium mining will jump 250% and 1,200% respectively over the next couple of decades to provide the materials necessary to build the number of solar panels, the International Energy Agency forecasts. World demand for rare-earth elements—which aren’t rare but are rarely mined in America—will rise 300% to 1,000% by 2050 to meet the Paris green goals. If electric vehicles replace conventional cars, demand for cobalt and lithium, will rise more than 20-fold. That doesn’t count batteries to back up wind and solar grids.

much of the mining will take place in nations with oppressive labor practices. The Democratic Republic of the Congo produces 70% of the world’s raw cobalt, and China controls 90% of cobalt refining.

A 50 story skyscraper uses 250,000 tons of steel.

These numbers are all in a vacuum, nothing is free and everything created has a cost.

The only way to determine if these numbers are unusual is to see how they compare to other things.

Or have knowledge of the wind industry, in this case.

How about that truck up to 500 mile range

they have already proven their capabilities for 15min full charge

    4 wheel drive

    Up to 35k towing capacity

    Up to 5k payload

Plus all the other stuff Tesla can do.

    Starting price 45k

Good chance of that being vaporware that’s years from coming to market, if at all.

    Not unlike Elio motors...

This look into the company is a bit concerning...

Glad you came to your senses and did the proper TEXAS thing. Now can this thread die please?

Senses, yes. I pick up the new Ford when it's tweaking is done (leveling kit) in a couple days.

    Thread die, unlikely.

My 21 year-old truck has less than 4,000 miles a year.
Also an F-250, it's not worth a lot so a lot of guys want it! Gas V-10 Triton rare?
It'll be my work/rock/ranch truck and the new one is our long distance travel vehicle.

When my Audi SQ5 SUV lease, everyday commute vehicle, is up in early 2020 I may still get an entry level Tesla 3 as a short-distance driver for me and the wife. Wife likes riding and traveling in a big truck but hates maneuvering it.

Good choice considering modern diesels come with gremlins aka def and dpf.

Also not rare. They used a 5.4 and 10 cylinder in the f250 line. I’m looking forward to seeing what people think of the newest gas 7.3 yes a 7.3 gas you read that correct.

    I thought a lot about the 2019 v the 2020 "new" redesign.

My absolute worse auto-owning experiences have been when I bought the first-year-out new designs.

My absolutely best reliable vehicles have been when I bought the model that has been around for a few years. They get tweaked to near perfection.

Buying the new 7.3 gas engine and the new 10 speed transmission would be the newest greatest but make me think of my worst experiences!
    I'm not a newest-bestest-early-adopter guy.

I bought the one that's been proven. I's my first ever diesel.
The new beast of a gasoline 7.3 may be perfect in a few months...or in 2022.

    Oh.
I just ordered 6x2.5 gallon DEF fluid containers on Amazon.
Sorry, but I have no respect for the coal-rollers spewing smoke on TX highways.

    (:

    First drive, Porsche Taychan.

    0-60 in 3-ish seconds
    0-124 (100 km/h) in ~10 seconds...instant and repeatable, unlike Tesla’s ludicrous mode.

    Impressive
