I am getting back into duck hunting after 20 years of not duck hunting. I am also new to Texas waterfowl hunting as I moved to Texas from California in 2015. After a few weeks of research, I have come to the conclusion that filling my freezer with mallard during the 2022/2023 duck season might be kind of hard if i hunt in the Houston area. My thinking right now is I might be better off hunting Mallards up north like the Texarkana area. Anyone have any recommendations on where in Texas mallards are still plentiful and any recommendations on guided hunts or clubs that sell day hunts with food and lodging? I am mostly interested in Mallards &Pintail/Sprig. I am not interested in geese. I don't mind driving from Houston area, but I like to not have to fly.

I considered myself a bit of a duck guru in the 2000s. Duck Dynasty and population expansion killed duck hunting on the north texas lakes that used to be empty most Saturday mornings.
