Isn't it pretty to think so.

$1200 is waaaaayyyy too much. Your offer is about right.

My thought on converting an Italian 1860 Henry are a bit different.
I'd bet the Italian guns have a .428/.429 bore?
    1) the barrel would be required to be cut off on the breech end. Enough to reach up past the throat far enough to be able to re-ream a .44 Special chamber.
I dunno? Maybe a chamber insert could be machined and fitted in like the Navy did years ago converting M1 Garands to .308.
2)The extractor on the bolt would need tweeking to snap over the lesser diameter case rim.
3.) The elevator would need to be internally spaced to work with the new cartridge. '
None of these are voodoo to make work. Just $$$$$$
It would be an expensive experience but in 44 special it would be a peach

What are you doing for ammo?

    That stuff is GONE.
Ok, so I know a guy that has some 44-40 brass, some new, some once fired and I believe he has some loaded ammo.
I saw him today and he is going to text me how much he has and what he wants for it.
I don't personally have anything chambered in 44-40, so I'll list it and if anyone is interested I'll forward his contact info.
BTW, he's a super good guy.

My friend with the 44-40 brass is asking for $40 per 100 for the new starline brass, and $35 per 100 for the once fired. He is near Waller and you would have to go to him.
Let me know if you want his contact information.

I found Starline brass by asking for some on another Texas Hunting forum -- then found some more on Gunbroker.
My Uberti likes 36 grains of Old Eynesford FFg, compressed, under the Accurate 43-215C -- John Cort's bullet --sized .430 and lubed with SPG. It also likes 16 grains of 2400 under the same slug.

My old Colt Frontier Six Shooter 44-40. It just sits in the safe begging to go out and shoot but I can't find ammo anywhere at a reasonable price so it just sits there. I do take it out every so often and admire the old thing.
Same for my .44-40 Winchesters (saddle ring carbine and a 20” barrel short rifle) that probably haven’t been fired since the Great Depression….

This picture made me so sad...poor forgotten rifle! I promise I will give it a wonderful new home, with plenty of gun oil and polishing cloths...and all the 44-40 ammo she wants!

.32-20 isn’t any better to find. There were several that made it pre-Covid. I could get a box of 50 for $30-35 from Midway, by three different manufacturers. Unobtanium these days.

My supply is limited, and can’t be replaced currently. That’s why I didn’t bring the ‘73 or ‘92 Winchesters to EZE’s last fall.
