Yes, .357 mag in a lever action is an ideal combination. I sold a Winchester trapper model years ago for a price I thought was insane. Id gladly add several $100 bills to that price to have it back.

I certainly know what a 30-30 is but I've never owned one. I do have an 1892 Winchester though and I am over 40...way over 40.

    Under 40. I have zero intrest in a .30-30

    A .357 OTOH

I mail ordered a Marlin 1894 .357 in 1984. Still have it and a Pietta repro to go with. This is THE gun my 3 sons (2 of which are LEO) all want when I pass from this world. My will is going to require a coin flip to start. That will be the first set to go.

Someone mentioned "easy to reload". That's true, and powders have improved quite a bit. If you haven't tried it, Hodgdon's Leverevolution is fantastic in the 30-30. The powder is specifically designed for the 30-30 and similar cartridges and will give you top velocity without excess pressure. Varget (which works in nearly everything) is a pretty good choice too.

In commercial ammo, Remington makes a cartridge called the Hog Hammer in 30-30. Huge hollowpoint.

    Texasjack,

YEP, The Hog Hammer will do a job on WT & a LOT of our TX exotics, as well as slaying hogs well.
(The old .30-30 is ALL the rifle that a goodly percent of TX hunters need, though I prefer the nearly as "old school" .35 REM. - I have 4 of those.)

    yours, satx

    Somewhere in Texas!
I do love a good lever gun. I recently traded my Henry 30-30 as partial payment on a Winchester 94 30-30 Sporter . I love the feel, 3 decades ago I had to sell my Winchester 30-30 when I lost my job. I also have in Winchester a .375 and 9422 for lever guns. Henry's well, I have a 22, 22 mag,38/357, 44 Mag and 45 colt and two Marlins in 45-70. I really like lever guns and single action revolvers and just revolvers in general.

When I really got the bug for deer hunting(many years ago) that's what I started with. It was actually a pair of special runs Winchester did. Nice wood, octagon barrels, consecutive serial numbers and fake engraving. One was 26" and the other 20". I could shoot open sights pretty well then and harvested quite a few whitetail with the 26" barrel rifle. Haven't had one for many years now.

    Gunz are icky.
    My 92 is octagon barrel.

Back then you could have Winchester build your rifles any way you liked. Long barrels. Trapper barrels. Round or octagonal. Extra fancy wood. Peep sights.
just a matter of your wallet.
Most folks just bought what was on the rack at the hardware store tho.
I always thought the M92 Saddle ring carbine was the perfect lever gun.
