CORPUS CHRISTI - Police have officially secured warrants for the man who shot at two uniformed off duty sheriff's deputies Thursday night. 43-year-old Todd Meine with two counts of attempted capital murder and a million dollar bond is set for each count.
Police say that Meine jumped bond in Missouri before coming to Corpus Christi. Right now, they say they're working with the police in that area to find out what he's wanted for.
Police say it all started when two off duty Nueces County Sheriff's Deputies, Eduardo Nunez and Roland Saenz, were called out to the ABC parking garage because of a suspicious suspect.
Police say the suspect was looking into cars and checking door handles. When the two deputies confronted him, police say Meine pulled out a gun and started firing. Deputy Saenz was hit in his left wrist, but a stroke of luck saved him from serious injury.
"It is the grace of God and amazing; for some reason when the rounds were fired, one literally struck the watch and lodged in the watch, and basically deflected the round from entering the officer's wrist," Lt. Isaac Valencia with the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Police say the suspect then tried to flee the scene when he tripped and collapsed.
That's when they say another security guard, David Gonzalez arrived on the scene and kicked the gun out of the shooter's hand.
American Bank Center officials are calling him the hero of the day for confronting that gunman even though he was not armed.
