I need 5 employees to be able to access our server remotely. Not at the same time but they all need to be able to access the same machine. I also need 3 of them to be able to access another machine.

If it's Windows. Microsoft has it's own remote desktop service built into the OS.
How to use Remote Desktop - Microsoft Support
Learn how to use Remote Desktop in Windows.support.microsoft.com
I will warn you if you enable it it will leave you vulnerable to certain attacks (that you're unlikely to encounter)
If the server is using RHEL Then the GNOME remote desktop should work.

Again, all of this requires firewall permissions.
My accountant suggested Team Viewer. It's pretty expensive. The wife works from home. Since we live in the sticks & cell service sucks.... no internet just a hot spot.... she uses TEAM VIEWER, but other employees that are local with better internet use CONNECT WISE. She says she likes TEAM VIEWER better because less employees use it & her connection is faster than if she uses CONNECT WISE.

Bookkeeper suggested GoToMyPC but it requires a new user for every person accessing a machine. So, if I want 5 people to be able to access 1 machine, that's 5 users. Add on 3 for the other machine = 8 users. 8 x about $24/month is getting pretty expensive.

Yeah
Tell your IT guy if he charges you more than 100 bucks to set up remote desktop through Windows he's a scam artist. If he knows what hte **** he is doing it should take him less than 20 minutes.
The capability is built into almost every OS. If you pay for it your IT is too lazy to set it up.

Heh allowing a Windows box directly on the internet, with any port open, is foolish.
Does the system in question fall under HIPAA compliance regs?
