I've seen cornbread served with BBQ in several restaurants across the southeastern states.

All the BBQ joints south of Austin have served Butterkrust white bread for 60 years plus
Probably it lets the BBQ taste come through

I introduced my wife to duck eggs. They take baking to a whole other level. Now I wish I could convince her to make it more often. Grandmother always made her cornbread from scratch and it was the only bread at meals. Occasionally she would do hot water cornbread, that is just heavenly.
