In .40, I can't think of a good reason to get anything but a used USP. Plenty of them around. No other service pistol should be more durable in the caliber, and they are fairly inexpensive because of the low demand for .40. I've also noticed that in recent weeks, .40 is the only service caliber ammo left on shelves.

One of the brands I have no experience with is H&K. Are they pretty good? Another brand I see a lot but never tried was FN.

An HK USP is about the only .40 id be willing to own.

Fn handguns are IMHO halfbaked attepts that have little in the way of support, and get discontinued after a few years

Hey! Where is our range report?
Have you shot that bad boy yet?
Love my Sigs, waiting to hear how it shoots but the peasants are getting restless waiting for your range report!

Alas, no range report yet. We only have one range in our area and they are limiting numbers of shooters. Going to try to take the sig and my dan Wesson revolver out there this week. I only loaded up 50 rounds of 40 to verify.

Well the good news. After 50 rounds no function issues. First shot at about 15 yards was a bullseye. After that, not so good. Trigger feels sloppy, but probably a lack of familiarity. I was all over the place from an accuracy perspective.
At least my reloads performed ok. Oddly enough a gun that I had initially dismissed in terms of accuracy was much improved. That was my baby rock. For grins tried some defensive rounds and accuracy was very food at about 10 yards.

Got a S&W .40 years ago and a couple of Panics back. A SD40VE, some think less of it because its a value model as was the Sig 2022. During the last panic ,40 was the only caliber that was usually on the shelf at wallyworld.
Turned out to be a great shooter. The fit is near perfect no need for a sleeve. Better triggers are available now but I just learned the one it came with. Overall a great gun, just with a stupid name. And ammo is usually available, so I hope nobody else discovers how much better the .40s are cause then they will hoard all the ammo.

Got something "new" in forty today. Think I will like it much more than the Sig 2022. Co-worker sold me his, basically unfired, CZ 75 SP-01 tactical this morning. He purchased it a couple of months ago from a LGS as new (basically, it was new old stock) and then bought some other firearms and needed to offset their costs. At $750, with case, manual, the new grips and a box of some 40 defensive rounds, not a bad price.
