Boeing & Lockheed is testing a fusion reactor that can theoretically power 80,000 homes. It’s the size of two refrigerators.

There's the answer right there. Scalable technology.

The biggest problem we've had in the US with nuclear power is that each one is a slightly different design. That means tons of paperwork just to get started and licensed. If there was ONE approved and licensed design it would cut years off the time it takes to get it online.

The biggest problem with that is you are basically making the assumption there's one design that would not only suit every power scenario, but that it would never need to be improved.

The problem with nuclear fusion, is that it’s been “20 years away” for the last 60 years.

It worked for France. I think they have 4 or 5 generations of plant upgrades, but plants within each generation are largely the same.

At least they weren’t reinventing the wheel with each and every new reactor that was built.

But their liberal government isn’t interested in a nuclear future...idiots.

The real problem is over-regulation, which creates the tons of paperwork and delays.

You can make improvements. But each plant shouldn't need to be a unique design. No other power plant is done that way.

Hhhmmm, the 3 Mile Island close call, Chernobyl, Fusushima don't scare me...wait...
Three Mile Island was not a close call.

Chernobyl - how the Russians build (or don't build) has no relationship to how nuclear reactors are built in the U.S.

    Fusushima - poor siting.

    Yep.

As I stated earlier in this thread, “as long as they aren’t built in a communist country or in an area prone to major earthquakes or tsunamis”.

Since we're on the subject of wind turbines... or as I call "cow fans"

Came across this a few minutes ago. Just a little concrete.

    Anyone here have solar?
I’ve been contemplating it, but it seems 90% of the companies are ripoffs and/or borderline scams.

If you buy your own panels and install them it's pretty freaking cheap. My friend in Denton did that. I just paid the 20k and got them installed.

    Cool!
    What are the details?
    Bill go down?
    Payoff timeframe?

Mine personally? Payoff as far as savings looks to be 7 to 8 years ROI. My bill is currently 0 or I get paid depending on the month and how much sun there is.

Asking friend in Denton if it's ok to share his details with you. Will reach out to you tomorrowish.
