Has anyone here set these up side by side and joined them together? I would like to set 3-20'ers up and build a little cabin setup. I have seen where people use flatbar welded across the top the help seal then put a roof over the containers. Just looking for ideas, one my many projects on the to do list.

My wife has a non profit business boarding rescue dogs. A few months back we were going to build a "stick frame' building but the cost was nuts for the size she needed! we bought 4 full size "High Cube" shipping containers, cut the long wall out of them and joined them together. Shipping containers get their rigidity from the walls so you have to be careful when you cut the long walls out. We ended up having to leave the walls on one side of each of them because it got so squirmy. We cut one wall out of each of them and joined all 4 together with the long wall in the center. (hard to explain but we have 2 shipping containers connected, then a man door cut to walk to the other 2 connected shipping containers. All 4 are welded together). The welder used a plasma cuter to cut the walls out. We put the whole structure on concrete pears with 1/4" steal plates under the containers so they are 100% level. The whole project took 2 days and a crain rental. Hit me up if you want to come check it out, we are in Sealy.

Have a couple of wood storage sheds that will need to be replaced one day.

Conex might be the way to go at that time, given the cost of putting up a wood shed.

    Out here by the lake!
Lucky for me my new place comes with an outbuilding/shop. It has its own electric, but sewer & water. I originally thought it would serve as my man cave. I might see about renting it out for boat or R/V storage.

    vmax,

Here in South Texas, heat for the Winters is NOT generally a problem BUT Summer heat is "unpleasant" inside a CONEX.

It is worth looking for an INSULATED container OR figuring out a suitable DIY means to apply insulation to "the box".

NOTE: In certain subtropical nations, two CONEX containers are "connected" & converted into homes & they (particularly in "hurricane country") make sturdy buildings or shops.

    yours, satx

This is pretty much what my plan was as a bachelor once I scraped up enough money to by some land. Though I planned on three containers, with one built out for living in. That plan was scrapped once I got married though. The missus doesn't do camping much less rougher living.

    San Antonio!
    Hot in the summer
    Cold in the winter
Maybe comfy 4-5 months of the year in texass

Try living in one in Djibouti in August!

And I'm not talking about the fancy ones shown in previous posts. Mine looked like a crime scene before I cleaned it up the best I could, and I slept atop my poncho as there was no way any part of me was touching that mattress!

With enough alcohol you can sleep anywhere

Thank you for your insight sir.
I had thought this out alot before I built these and used an insulating coating on the ceilings and with the metal roof suspended above the container roof, the direct sunlight never hits the top.
Heat absorbed from the sides is not that bad, and I have cut 12" square vents in thr roof and door for airflow
It never gets hotter inside than my garage at home.
