A friend is in a bind for cash and he offered to sell me a pair of Colt Cobra Agents, snub nose and a shrouded ejector rod ... one blue and one polished.

    Both unfired.
They are in a Colt box, but the wrong box.

Serial numbers date to 1974 for the blued and 1973 for the polished

Owner claims these are $1K guns ... I'm thinking closer to $700.

He also has a Cimmaron 45LC with a 10" barrel ... Wyatt Earp commemerative.
Unfired ... in the original box with papers.

    He claims it's a $700 gun ... I'm thinking maybe $400.

    What say you TGT?

Your estimates look a little high. A quick look at Gun Broker shows few Agents close to $700. Cimmaron is also not a highly desired brand - ok, but not collector quality.

If it was me, I'd probably tell him I have to pass and leave it at that. Guys who believe their stuff is worth a fortune, but they're also broke, are guys who will always struggle financially. Otherwise, if it was a good friend, I might offer to take them as loan collateral.

I've seen some folks get great deals from someone's hardship. I've never gotten lucky like that. I have bought a few guns from friends going through hard times, and I probably paid a little more than it was worth, but they did need help, and in at least one case I ended up with a pistol I really enjoy.

You could offer to put them on gunbroker for him. Then when they less for less than he believes they are worth, you can still be friends.

Called an FFL friend of mine ...

98% blued Colt Cobra Agent books at $850
98% polished Colt Cobra Agent books at $1150

Real world values are probably 80% of that.
I figure without the box, even unfired, the value is hurt.

I've shared this info with my buddy and he said he'd probably keep them and take them to a gun show this weekend and see what happens.

I think he's going to be disappointed.

Loan collateral at what you think they are worth is the best way to keep the friendship in tact at this point. Plus the lower price will make it easier for him to pay back.

I agree. If he comes to around $650, +- $50, he can probably sell the Colts. He will still have to find the right person.
That Cimarron will be hard to sell at $400.
    These are just my opinions.

I think he was, but we are friends and will remain that way.

I've found that a transaction between friends has a way fading butt-hurt feelings.

But a loan is a completely different animal.

If you do loan money on the guns, be sure to include a specific timeline for payback.

So, any reason that he isn't trying to sell them by way of the for sale forum here?
