I slowed my pace down and did 1.5 miles jogging non-stop this afternoon. 14 min 40 seconds. About 6.1 mph avg speed. Then walked 1.5 miles to cool down.

    1A2,

I forgot to mention, be sure to use good quality running shoes.

A lot of guys got shin splints in basic from running in combat boots.

Having quality running shoes goes a lot way to avoid this and other running injuries.

Switched to doing 1.5 miles now. Might try bumping that to 1.75 gradually over the next couple of weeks.

1.5 mi times so far, in order:

    14:49
    14:09
    14:28
    14:25
    13:54
    14:17

    Keep it up.

I am at 6 miles now. Right at 54 minutes. I can run the first mile at a better pace, but at that distance a 9 minute mile just feels right. I have a route in my neighborhood that is exactly 6 miles. I have to double back in two locations. However, last night we had 40 MPH winds. I decided to run on the treadmill.

Checked my resting heart rate last night... 47!

    6 miles, yikes. That's daunting.

Slowed my pace a little and did 1.75 miles this afternoon. 16:16

    47 bpm... call an amberlamps!

So I started running a couple of months ago. After a couple of weeks, I gave myself what I think was a very minor case of plantar fasciitis. Had to stop for a week. Got some good running shoes and that one has stayed away since.

Then a couple of weeks ago, just when I was starting to make alot of progress (cutting down my average mile time by 30 seconds per run), I over did it, and wound up with achilles tendonitis in my right tendon.

Today is the first day since then that I've been able to walk around without a great deal of pain in that ankle.

So am I ready to start running again or should I give it a few more days?

Also, what are some exercises I can do to prevent it from getting injured again?

I have kinda flat feet. I think it's making me prone to running injury.
Are you trying to outrun a bad eating plan? If so, then stop eating sugars and grains.

I used to run about 3 miles per day. I had all sorts of foot and knee issues.

I found that running sprints was easier on my joints.

I know use a kettlebell exclusively for my exercise. Kettlebell swings can really get the heart rate up without the pounding that jogging can cause.
