What gun cleaning products do you use? So far I've only tried Hoppe's 9 but the the smell is so damn strong and leaves my house smelling (I don't have a workshop to clean in).

I've been curious about Ballistol, but heard it leaves an odor as well. Anyone have any recommendations for something that doesn't have such a strong odor and safe to use in smaller areas?

Weapons Shield or Slip 2000 EWL. Neither has a strong odor. Also Break Free CLP is not bad. Yes, Ballistol smells like a combination of dirty socks and licorice. :)

Lol I've read a few others who've said the same about Ballistol having a licorice smell. I've read good things about Break Free. Thanks for the response!

Break Free isn't bad. I have it in my kit along with Hoppe's and Ballistol.

I swear by Ballistol for most uses as repeated use just helps the carbon melt off. It smells like concentrated Anise to me but I also do my gun cleaning in my garage.

I've tried Hoppe's, Froglube, Milcomm 25 (I think), Breakfree CLP, and Slip 2000.
    My preference is Slip 2000

By the way, they all stink smell-wise. There was a gun cleaner once upon a time that was lemon scented. It smelled great. My brother bought it for me many years ago, was made in VT. Tried to track it down last year to see if i could find it so many years later and buy it for myself but to no avail.

Hoppes. Clp. Birchwood Casey gun oil for all I care.

birchwood Casey smells so bad. Every time I get a whiff of it I know I get closer and closer to getting cancer. Mint stuff though.
