When it comes time to buy a shotgun there are a few things to consider. In all actuality, there are many things to consider but let’s take a look at what I believe are the core items to look at before you make your final selection. Considering these few points can lead to you getting the shotgun that best serves your needs while not breaking the bank.

Pump or gas gun? The two main styles of shotguns are pump action and semi-auto guns which are often referred to as “gas guns.”

Got some advice years ago from an old man that only had one shotgun his whole life.

    His advice when like this:
    1) Get a 12 gauge - It's more versatile
    2) Get the shorter 26" barrel - I will point quicker
    3) Get a heavy one - I will swing smoother
    4) Practice with it a lot - You will fit to the gun and won't want to change.

And do it at an early age before you develop specific shooting tendencies/ habits and
You will have found your favorite for life!

    All but the heavy part.
Some of us actually carry our guns many miles foraging for game be it. Quail, Chukar Pheasant, Rabbit, Squirrel.
If not a hunter then swinging and holding up a heavy gun for a few rounds of trap or skeet gets real old real fast.
Think of handing a kid or small stature person your gun and watch him or her struggle to use it. Just my take of being there and doing that.
