I know some of you have spent time up north and have used chest rigs. Tell me what you used and what you recommend.

    I have a S&W Model 629 5" that I will be using with it.

Just to clarify, you are wanting a chest rig as opposed to a shoulder rig (e.g., carrying at the side beneath the arm)?

These seem to be the gold standard currently. They are expensive but have very good reviews. I haven't used them yet, but my friend from PA has used one when he hunted in AK. He had nothing but good things to say about it

Ended up buying this one, and glad I did. They make the holster gun specific. Nice and tight, fits well, good workmanship.

    highly recommended.

I inherited a 629 with a 5" barrel when my father passed several years ago. That is one heavy big ass gun that I wouldn't even want to carry in any kind of a holster for any length of time!

I have the gunfightersinc holster for a 1911 in 10mm. Quality rig, good straps, sits well during draw. For casting a rod the chest rig works well and keeps the gun out of the way. For heavy guns chest rigs are especially comfortable. You'll need to practice a new draw. I practice hooking my passive-arm-thumb in my belt for the draw. Good luck.

THats what I went with, and ended up ordering a couple more of their holsters for other guns.
