I recently bought some beartooth cast boolits for my 45LC lever gun. I noticed that have grooves for wax/lube but not came on them. Is it required or at least suggested that all cast boolits be lubed?

Absolutely they should be lubed in some way. The easiest for you would be to pan lube them. Or Alox, but I'm not a big fan of Alox.

I looked at their site and they show them lubed so I don't get why yours aren't.

I use to buy .308s that always needed to be lubed and sized. I always sized, lubed and gas checked.

According to their faq page they are sized, lubed and gas checked. Guess I’ll have to call them on Monday.

Yes! We wouldn't sell you half a bullet. Projectiles from Beartooth Bullets arrived lubed, sized, and gas checked on gas check design bullets.

Looks like they are lubed, they dont use a wax in groove style if that is what you mean. Pick them up, you'll feel it.

Do they feel like they are waxy or coated in anything? Some lubes are meant to coat the entire bullet.

I don't know of any manufactures that do it this way though. It's mainly the quick and dirty way for people casting at home to coat a lot of bullets cheaply and quickly. Most either powder coat now, or use the traditional lube in the groove method. If those aren't coated/lubed, then definitely don't shoot them or you will quickly learn some new swear words when go to clean your gun.

If it ends up being too much trouble to send them back, pick up a tube of Lee Liquid Alox, put the bullets and a small squirt of the Alox (a little goes a long ways) in a container, and shake until they are coated. Lay them out on some wax paper to dry, then shoot away.

Hmm, didn't know you could buy those. I cast my own 45LC boolits and pan lube the grooves in the oven. I only do black powder tho.

Looking at the website, I'm seeing a lot of blue lube in the ridges.

Interested to see how this pans out, they have some nice .358 projectiles with gas checks.
