    If it's brand new I'd bet multiple things aren't set right on it. What type of carb?
    Holley Brawler, I followed step by step and can get it to change but just can't get it good. Right now it's flooding and running rich. Been messing with for too long now and gettin pissed after all I've gone through with this project. Long story.

    At an idle or when you give it gas?
    And does it run better without an air filter?

    I'm more familiar with Weber carbs so probably can't coach you through specifics, but usually flooding is going to be improperly set floats or too much fuel pressure.
    Floats are set mid way runs best at this level. I was tinkering on high fuel fuel pressure. I have a fuel gauge but after some googeling I see that it's junk and not accurate. Trying to avoid a fuel regulator since I don't care for clutter. Running a mechanical pump and won't run an electric. Have a couple other issues other as well. Hands on tinkering and or experience beats all the reading and YouTuben hands down.

    Mechanical pump should not need a regulator in most cases. Knowing a lot more about what you are working on would help.

    Never heard of a Brawler but it looks like a newer version of the old 4160/4170 Holley. If so, it likely has a power valve. Even Holleys with "power valve blow out prevention" can rupture the power valve diaphragm. This causes the idle and primary circuits to receive about 10 jet sizes too much fuel.

    One cough back through the carb can rupture the PV.

    Timing set correctly and on a proper curve. What's the vacuum at idle?

    Need to know A LOT more about the combo to help...like cam specs, cubic inches, type of ignition system...

    Floats, idle jet set way to rich or main jets too big.
    More info would be a help.

    Wasn't seeking discussions I was asking for actual hands on help.
    Found it elsewhere. Thanks for the input though all of which was previously applied. Turned out to be mixture of big cam, changing curve adjustment in ignition module, Mallory dizzy and fine tuning carb adjustments.
