I ordered a Level 3+ plate carrier set up and am now looking at a good quality tactical bump helmet or ballistic helmet.
I think the ballistic helmets are great but are pricey.
A tactical bump helmet won’t stop a bullet but can protect your noggin from a thrown object or a whack over the head you didn’t see coming.

I’m curious to what you guys might have bought and had experience with.

I plan on staying far enough away from any of that craziness binoculars wouldn't let me observe even if I wanted to. I'm damn sure not suiting up and looking for it.
Thank you for your opinion in my gear and accessories thread, it really means a lot to me.

I’ve only ever used ballistic helmets. CAG learned some hard lessons on the effectiveness of a bump helmet.

Ops-Core was my preferred lid, but I’ve worn the PASGT, ACH, and MICH.

Since I no longer have a professional need for ballistic protection, I don’t have any of it hanging around.

I also have a hard time finding a scenario where I’m going to need it either, because if I’ve got the time and justification to recognize the threat, drag all that shit out, throw it on and secure it, then I’d rather just eliminate the threat.

Doesn't mean it won't come looking for you.

No purchase, no experience, but I would not be opposed to keeping a close bump helmet around.

Don't have any experience with ballistic helmets or bump helmets, but many of the companies I worked for, hard hats were required safety equipment and to be worn pretty much all of the time. I hate the damn things! I think I'd almost rather be shot than to have to wear a helmet!

First they have to find me. Short dead end road out in the sticks.
Why did you even reply to this thread?
Just to run your mouth about a question that nobody ask your ass to start with?
Nobody ask you why or if someone needs one..

This is a thread about gear..
Obviously you don't need any and I don't care why either.

    San Antonio!
Ops-Core or Team Wendy, but to be honest you are likely wasting your time and money. It is doubtful you will ever be in a situation where a ballistic or even a bump helmet would be necessary.

If you're looking just to protect your noggin from taking a hit, go find a nice skateboard helmet. Or get a tacti-cool airsoft one. Save your money for mo better things...like ammo!

Milsurp is definitely on the list to consider and affordable.

One thing to consider is whether you just want to protect the brain bucket, or if you’re going to want to make it all high-speed.

Might be way easier to find accessories like a comfort insert kit, helmet light, IFF strobe, etc., for US products in the milsurp market.

Having a helmet set up for comms would be high on my list.

If you want ballistic, start with ACH or MICH if you’re thinking about having ear pro w/comms as well for the widest set of compatible rails and/or Velcro kits.

Doesn’t have to be fancy, but electronic pro with Bluetooth hands free calling thru your phone would be a good option.

For high speed low drag, I'm leaning towards a bump style
Great point on the hands-free phone option
Wanting something that stows away easy with the plate carrier
