I'm replacing grips on a SA Compact .45, going to thin grips. I discovered one of the frame hole threads are crossed, the bushing won't seat right and I don'twant to force it. I'm hoping to chase the threads to see if I can save it before going to an oversized bushing.

Anyone know the thread size? Maybe something I can find locally at the hardware store?

I'm thinking of trying to get a bushing started on the backside to see if i can get te threads cleared. I'm trying to avoid putting off the project waiting on parts to get delivered.

The gun is newly acquired, came with much less bs and cash that the one I tried to buy in DFW last fall.

Brownells sells the taps to chase the threads.

I doubt you will be able to source such a tap locally. You might find a well equipped machine shop that might have that size tap that could do the job of chasing the threads.

I appreciate it. I may just have to order.

Correction on the size I said, it should be .236x60 to clean. I just found it in my Kuhnhausen book, I forgot about old school references.

You are correct. the .150-50 is for the internal threads for the grip screws. and the .236-60 is for the threads in the frame for the bushings.

I'm gonna drop this link here in case I or anyone else needs the reference. Its to Alumagrips Oversized Slim Line Bushings which from what I can tell, is the one source for oversized thin grip bushings.
If you end up having to go that route, Brownells also sells an over-size bushing tap and the bushings as well.

I would also recommend one of these tools for installing the bushings.

Well boy howdy I think I got it ;) After thinking about it decided to use
a take off standard bushing to carefully chase the threads. Figured if I was going to be ordering parts, I ought to "determine" (break) which I'd ones I would need lol

I was able to keep the bushing level while driving it and looks like it's seated and with threads still in tact. I pulled it out, cleaned the threads again, there was some metal junk and a lot of antiseize. The PO plugged the bushing holes full of it. Wierdo.

Got the new slim bushing seated and blue Loctited in place and as snug as I dare to turn it. I'm gonna cross my fingers and call it good.

Axxe55, thanks fr the talk through on tools, it got my mind in the right place to get it done.
