ANY gun is always better than no gun !

Been there; don’t want to get caught like that ever again !

    <>
At best they can only get a license for one gun and 50 rounds of ammo. This may have changed but that's not a lot when people are trying to kill you. Forget about practice.

    <>

Their politicians, like ours, keep demanding STUPID policies which get innocents killed.

    Over & over !

I have worked with/around Israeli officers in several countries. I never met a Mossad officer who carried a handgun with an empty chamber, I mentioned this to several officers and only got a laugh, or a "no comment" for reply.

To start with, I always carry with a round in the chamber...
I've been meaning to add the limited information I have on Israeli/Mossad carry based on the book "Vengeance" by George Jonas. It's the story of the Israeli counter-terrorist team going after the PLO members responsible for the murder of the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
The team is trained by an American ex-Marine. Their weapons were .22 RF Berettas (maybe Model 71s, wasn't specified). His training was: no round in the chamber, no safeties, always an immediate "double tap", and should the weapon come out... it gets used, no re-holstering. He also wanted them to practice until they could draw and fire "in their sleep". Additional information in the book was that the ammunition was loaded with lighter loads since suppressors wouldn't be used and range would be minimal.
    Remember, these guys were assassins.
Any rate, I couldn't finish the book. About 40 pages to the end it got too depressing to continue.
This isn't meant to end the discussion, just additional information.

Exactly. Mossad agents are going to be the higher skilled guys. Empty chamber is for the 18yo conscripts in the regular IDF or other police/security orgs. (I'm not agreeing with empty chamber)

Understood. But years back, they were heavily armed.

They should still be heavily armed, given their precarious situation.

    <>

The myth of Israelis being heavily armed is just that. A relic from days past. Those who changed laws to make gun ownership more difficult should be drawn and quartered by the folks who had to endure the latest assault on their homes and communities. But won’t be. Their politics are infiltrated by useless idiots as the rest of the world. Just not to the same degree yet. I mean they have folks protesting against the “war”. After they had their homes burned, women raped and children murdered. That’s a bit worse than the whole western gays for Palestine thing.

So, I carry a revolver most of the time. If I carry an auto, it has a round in the chamber with the safety on, except the 92FS, it has the safety disabled, same same revolver now.
An auto with an empty chamber is better than no gun at all. YOU MIGHT HAVE TIME TO CHAMBER A ROUND. IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS A CLUB IF ITS A 1911.

I had my cc license in IL, and carried frequently. Always with a round in the chamber. Since we've moved here and have our CHL, I noticed that my change in wardrobe has made me more aware of the round in the chamber. There i wore jeans or jeans shorts, and carried back pocket with a desantis nemesis. Here, I tend to wear lighter shorts (Magellan, like everyone) that have a cargo pocket. It's a great place for a pistol, easier to draw while sitting, not a literal pain in the ass. Though I'd hate to have to run with that weight there. But while out to dinner with friends, I realized that I was aimed directly at a good friends sweet wife. When I was back pocket carrying, such a thing was fairly impossible. My own leg was between me and anyone else, or the barrel was pointed down.
I will continue to carry with a round chambered. But it did illuminate why people make the argument. An argument that I'd scoffed at for years.

    I am OLD.

I can recall friends’ Middle East vacation photos showing non-uniformed Israeli citizens out & about, in cafes, bars, businesses, etc with Uzi’s on little neck slings and BHP’s in belt holsters.

Not a few of them, but almost every Citizen there, was armed at all times.

I'm too fat for that. And with all the fan-damn-tastic food down here, it isn't getting better. I don't like iwb at all. When wardrobe allows, I like a nice high ride leather. Or even a nice shoulder holster, which is wonderful for chores and tractor work. Comfy and out of sight.
I have a belly band. But I sweat a lot and save it for occasions that I won't be hot.

As a reminder; this may have begun as a holdover from the old style revolvers w/o “transfer bar safeties”; with which it was advisable & common practice to cary w/ an empty cylinder chamber under the dropped hammer.

For our Young: Those old wheel-guns had integral firing pins as integral parts of their hammers. If dropped hammer-down on a loaded chamber, they would fire.

It is OK to carry with one in the chamber as long as you got a bill of sale from the guy that sold you the ammo. That way if a cop with a bad attitude stops you, you can prove that the 'bullets' are registered to you. Otherwise you may beat the rap, but not the 'ride'... :roflfunny:

Any other stupid gun cliches anyone want to add?

I'm not sure if the stories about the IDF carrying pistols into combat with an empty chamber are true or not, but I will share an example of abject stupidity from my time in the Navy in the late '80's. In 1988 I was a newly minted officer and reported to my first ship, a destroyer, based out of Norfolk, VA. One of my first qualifications was to stand watch as Officer of the Deck in port. Basically controlling the brow (ramp) from the ship to the dock. On destroyers, this was usually manned by a E-6 petty officer, a Chief Petty Officer or a junior commissioned officer like me. In those days the OOD "carried" a Colt 1911 .45...that in my ship's case had undoubtedly seen service against the Kaiser's forces in the Great War. Army and Marine officers carried the new Beretta 92 9mm at the time. We, of course, wore these with an empty magazine well, so as to be able to beat any intruders or invaders with the butt of the pistol. During my qualification with this historical relic, we were instructed, in the very rare case that we were issued ammunition, we would have 3 rounds loaded in the magazine, with mag kept in a belt pouch. The first round, after making a very big show of loading the pistol was to be fired "in the air" as a warning shot. Yes ships Chief Master at Arms (Navy version of an MP) told us this. The second shot was to "wound", and yep, they told us to aim for the leg. Finally the third shot was for center of mass and then presumably we were to return to beating the attacker with the empty pistol.
